Dreamscapes

My inspiration, gleaned throughout my journeys in life ... I have been fortunate to experience a lot of our world and found an abundance of natural beauty everywhere, be it oceans, waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, deserts, ice - darkness and light - it all inspires me, and maybe most of all the never-ending and ever-changing sky. I rarely paint on the spot, restlessly I take lots of photos (my small camera an inseparable companion) - often to never look at the result! In fact, I really paint from my 'mind's eye', timelessness prevails.

When I work my favourite place is my quiet tiny London-based studio, close to Hyde Park, which is a constant source of inspiration. Inevitably I also will 'revisit' my Danish Blues, as I call all my Blue Dreamscapes!

In this painting I am striving to convey the essence of some of my early childhood memories from my place of birth: the seemingly bleak, deserted landscapes of parts of Jutland - especially close to the North Sea - are possessing a kind of haunting, almost melancholic, beauty, once seen never forgotten…but, forever loved. For poetry I have added perhaps a few more flowers than there really was… - artistic licence!

A Mind’s Eye View

From my many journeys to New Zealand over the years I have painted from my mind’s eye a special view - best seen from a helicopter or small plane, from above, as so many sights in this stunning country. I am putting brush to canvas showing my interpretation, in this case inspired by a flight back from Milford Sound on a late afternoon, the unforgettable colours and curved shapes - the way I also paint my female forms.
