About Ulla

Name: Ulla Turner (nee Plougmand)
Nationality: Danish by birth
Birth Sign: Taurus
Background:
Ulla was brought up and educated academically (equivalent of A-levels
plus some medicine) as well as artistically in Denmark, her late
father a dedicated practitioner, her mother who still lives in Denmark
an equally dedicated psychologist.
Despite her rather conventional background Ulla has led a varied
and colourful life. She travelled the world extensively absorbing
a multitude of impressions, of people, culture, colour and scenery
wherever she went, often making sketches, taking photos, later to
express her experience and feelings on canvas - painting from her
mind's eye above all.
The Present: Ulla's present work (predominantly oil on canvas) has
been described as "intense, vibrant - spontaneous, exuberant",
and as "having soul". All this - and more - is true. Every
time you look you will discover something fresh, sometimes unexpected.
The sensitive spectator responds to and enjoys this painter's obvious
zest for life and generousity of spirit: she is giving - you have
only to allow yourself to open your mind - and receive.
Favorite
Themes: Her romantic often dreamlike, if at times abstract, interpretation
of the beauty of the female form. Another well loved theme is that
of dreamlike landscapes often inspired by her Scandinavian background,
at other times by more exotic shores. Characteristically, she refers
to them as "dreamscapes". A feeling of spiritualism is
never far away.

Favourite colour: Blue - all shades - "my beloved Danish Blues,
she calls them.
Favourite sources of inspiration: LIFE, first and foremost. Studying
anatomy and working as a model was always an inspiration for her
works celebrating the beauty of the female form. She is also inspired
by the wonders of nature - volcanos, mountains, ice and fire - extremes,
from explosions to complete stillness...
She loves walking along the at times deserted west coast of Jutland
in her homeland Denmark, observing the rolling sea. In London as
a contrast she walks in Hyde Park.Yoga which to her often becomes
a spiritual experience - and meditation - play an important part,
too. All have the added benefit of keeping mind, body and soul together.
Life philosophy:
Ulla
sums it up simply like this, "I have faith". "I believe
in the good in human nature and prefer to focus on this aspect rather
than the opposites of the spectrum.Whenever possible I try to turn
the negative into something positive. It is an ongoing challenge!
I also believe in love. Without love this world would be a lost
planet".
Ulla currently lives in London with her daughter.
